Never say Never

I used to say I would NEVER drive a mini-van!  Well three kiddos later, a mini-van became my dream car.  The only thing is, we weren’t planning on fulfilling that “dream” quite yet.  LOL  But let me tell you, I was NOT laughing last week.  On Tuesday, Rick called from the side of the highway saying he was arranging for our Camry to be towed to the mechanic shop and he needed me to come get him.  OH NO.  NO.  NO.  Wednesday, mechanic says it’s a goner.  Thursday, we pick it up and take it for second opinion…because you know, this is BIG.  On the outside chance someone else saw things differently, we wanted to know.  Friday we get call from second opinion mechanic…it’s a goner.  Big time goner.  UGH.  Saturday, we buy a new car.  The very car we PLANNED to buy in two years.

On Tuesday when the old car was towed away, Rick and I discussed that he could “hoof it” through the summer but just big ole LOL.  We live near…well not much.  He is an hour from work (takes lightrail though).  We have 3 kids who are 5 and under and need to go here and there.  Four days of living with 1 car and we were done with that idea.

So here are our new wheels.  Obviously this will mostly be my car but really it’s the kid mobile.  Whoever is carting around kids will cart them in our new Honda Odyssey.  :)

It is a gun-metal grey color with grey interior.  I am sure Honda does not call it gun-metal grey though.  LOL

Because it will never look like this again.  ;)   It already doesn’t.  There are now three Britax seats waiting for kiddo booties in those seats.

I already love this car and plan to love it for many many many years.  Do you think we can get 15 years out of it?  That’s the plan!  :)

  1. Well my mother just sold her 90 Honda Civic (which was still running well) so I think 15 years should be no problem! I love Hondas! And aren’t new cars fun?!?

  2. Your van looks very nice. I think with three kids, it becomes a necessity.

You will LOVE your Honda! My daughter and I still talk about our first Honda’s…the best cars ever. 15yrs? Entirely possible.

Ohhhh! You are going to LOVE your van! The kids will too, they sit up higher and can see everything! Having the automatic doors was this mom’s dream, especially with a 1 and 2 year old at the time. We were going to wait until my Camry had lots of miles on it (another year or 2) before we bought a van, or something larger. Then, on our anniversary, four months after Jenna came home and I was now carrying 2 little ones around, my husband surprised me with a Toyota Sienna!

  5. I never thought I would be jealous of someone with a mini van, but I am. I want one! It looks so nice. I think you’ll definitely get 15 years out of it. I have a Saturn that is just over 15 years old and is running great, and it’s not even a Honda.

  6. I love it! I told Matt the other day I wanted to trade his tundra for a minivan. He just laughed and reminded me that he swore the day we planned children that he would never drive a minivan. Darn it.
I am interested in how old your camry was, why did it die. Please tell me you had 600k miles on it first. I love camrys, and toyota in general.
    This van is soooo pretty.

  7. Congrats on the new wheels!! It’s a beauty!!

  8. Love it! But it only seats 7, right?
IF we adopt a sibling group of 3, we will need a vehicle to seat 8, so just in case, we aren’t buying anything unless it does.
If we have more kids than that I guess we have to buy a bus! ha ha!
Seriously- LOVE it. We have a Chrysler Town and Country and even with transmission issues, I am hesitant to part with it! Mini-Vans Rock girl!!

  9. Welcome to the minivan world! Ain’t it just grand?! We have a 2000 Odyssey with 130,000 miles and we have never had an issue with it. We will drive it until it dies.

  10. can you say j-e-a-l-o-u-s?

    I can.

  11. I love love love my Nissan Quest & I know many happy Honda owners, too!

Seriously – even with just one kid, I love having a mini-van. I can take KIDS and STUFF! It makes travel & road trips much more fun!

  12. I am on year three with my Odessey and I love it. We have 5 kids. I traded in my big gas guzzling SUV for this van and have not regretted it for a minute.

  13. DH now drives our Saturn wagon, and I get to drive the NEW ENVOY!!! We were looking at the Odessey..but I just couldn’t go the mini-van route! I borrowed my sister’s when I watched her kids for 2 weeks, (including mine – 5 kiddies in total)!
I had people yelling at me “Hey lady, where’d you get your license”!! That did it for me!
..and I’m not even a bad driver!!
congrats on your new ride….now you’ve got to “pimp it up! (with hello kitty and dinosaurs!) LOL

  14. YA know, I swore I would NEVER drive a mini-van either but then I did that test drive and I sooo want one of the new Dodge Carvans! I am guessing 2 years for us…you never know though. :-)

Your Honda looks great! Gun-metal grey. I love it.

And yes, I think all signs in my neighborhood are pointing to go back to Colorado…now make the housing market move would ya? LOL

  15. Isn’t it fun? We have had ours for almost a year and I never thought I would love a vehicle as much as I love my van!

  16. Hi again! We have the same car – although ours is a bluer gray. I love this car!! It’s great for hauling soccer kids around and great for vacation trips.
