Kooky Kitchen

Remember this?

Looky now!

This turned out to be a winter-long project but last weekend, Rick and I put the finishing touches on and…tada!  Kiddos have a kooky kitchen to work in.  :)   This is ALL they have played with since he finished it so I think all the effort was worth it.  Rick designed and built it and there is a lot of love in that there kitchen.  :)

Two things we didn’t like about the play kitchens you can buy…the ovens don’t open right and they are small scale overall.  Especially for Sophie, we wanted one that would last longer size-wise.  Oh and we really like wood toys.  Rick designed this one oversized and so that the oven opens down like an oven should instead of sideways like a cupboard door.  Picky picky I know, but the more it’s like mommy’s kitchen, the happier the kids are with it.  Now I am envious of their fun colorful kitchen!  LOL

Don’t those “suns” make cute burners?  :)   Those and the colorful stain job were my contribution to the project.

They assign jobs and get to work.  :)   Here Levi is setting the table, Bella is getting whatever food she wants cooked and Sophie is the cooker.    Bella says it’s really her kitchen so she can be a cookie maker but Sophie says it’s for everyone.  To any grown-ups, Levi says, “Hit the road toads!  Outta MY kitchen!”.  Any guesses on where he got that from?  LOL  He told Gr’ma thats what his mommy says about HER kitchen.   Tattletale.

So tada…project kitchen is complete!

Come on over and they will be happy to whip something up for ya.  :)

The only thing is, you might have to wash your own dishes because Sophie realized that there isn’t a dishwasher and she claims to have never really heard of washing dishes in the sink.  LOL  Another tattletale.  ;)

  3. I love it! You guys did a great job. I’m sure the kids are going to love it for years to come. The burners are great. You’re so right about the ones in the stores, they are so small. You had a good idea to make it bigger to last longer.

  5. Absolutely fantastic!! Your so smart making it larger and studier. The plastic ones are always breaking, and I find that there are little sharp pieces of plastic that the kids can cut themselves on!
I’m going to show DH the pics… maybe it will inspire him, we’re going to need something a bit tougher with another toddler on the way..

  6. WOW! I want to come and play at YOUR house!! That is gorgeous!!!

  7. How beautiful! And how special that their daddy made it. They will have years of fun with that.

  8. Yeahhhh!! So beautiful!!! Daddy needs to sell the ‘pattern’ :) Better yet, Daddy needs to sell these on E’bay!
I know they will enjoy it for years!

  9. WOW!! I am SO impressed! My dad was a carpenter too and made me all manner of wonderous things. Dads always do it better! That is just spectacular (and I love your kids all dressed up and sharing the kitchen duties!)
