Great Oh-Eight
It drives Rick crazy when I say that! Hey, lets make it a great 08. LOL But that is my goal. I think I need something to look forward to all the time and it used to be things like trips to Ireland that did it for me. Now, it’s things like American Idol season starting up. Or a NEW episode of House. How things change.
Anyhow, making it a great 08 is another thing to look forward to. A goal of some sort. Something to plan for. But I don’t really do resolutions so I didn’t want to call it that or even start on Jan 1. But now that we are almost to Feb…its about time to get this party started. This great 08 party.
Now that I think about it, it’s almost CHINESE New Year. How appropriate. I dont do New Year’s resolutions but I apparently do CHINESE New Year resolutions. LOL
I also don’t like to announce my goals to my friends and family, much less all of the world. Well not ALL of the world. Just those of you who actually give me a piece of your day as you read my silly blog spot. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that you do this by the way.
Anyhow, I feel committed to meeting these goals and want to say them out loud.
During the past 5 years, I have gained 38 lbs. Can you believe it?? UGH. This is hard to say. This is what the stress of adopting has done to me. I think we all respond differently, some actually LOSE weight. Some organize their whole house. Some travel the world (Ok, I dont actually know anyone who has done this but if I was handing out advice on what to do “while you wait”, this would make the top of the list!). And some of us eat a lot of chocolate. If you have adopted, I imagine you relate to some of this. If not, I am not sure I can explain it because I could not have guessed that adopting would be so stressful. But then I guess unknowns usually are like that. And there are endless unknowns in the adoption process.
Ok so back to the 38lbs. I have lost a little over 10 of those pounds so far this year. A little over you ask? Well 10.6 to be exact. LOL We recently bought a digital scale. Crazy how I now know even if I lose .2. Or gain .2. LOL I thought it would be silly but actually I love knowing the exact numbers. My resolve on this remains strong although my willpower has not been rock solid every single day. I am back on track although it is crazy how hard this is for me. But there you have it. If I decline eating out at a restaurant with you or a piece of cake at your birthday party, this is why. And if I accept that cake, you knock me over the head with it.
The other way we are making 08 great (I can hear that groan, Rick!) is by paying off debt. Rick has a good job, and we tend to think there is always more $$ around the corner. And there is for the most part. I have heard many times, “I dont know how you can afford to adopt 3 times in a row”. Well we couldn’t! LOL Three adoption processes in 3.5 years did set us back a bit. Although blaming it all on the adoptions isn’t quite accurate because we also moved to this house 2.5 years ago. 3+ adoptions would have been no biggie if we were still in our old house. Anyhow, it is what it is and let me state the obvious here! What is more worth going in to debt for than adopting!?! Nothing.
So we are taking this year to play catch up. Our debts will be paid by the end of this year. Well, so long as I stay off the waiting child lists.
And that is how we are going about making this year count. Here is to a great 08.

Yes, here is to a Great ‘08! I hear ya on the lbs. I am struggling to lose about 30 myself. I would say lets be diet buds, but i’m real good at convincing you it’s ok to cheat. I have been trying to do the WW points system on my own. I never got much out of the meetings. It’s a slow progression for me but I’m not giving up (yet).
As to a debt diet, yeah, going on one of those too. We’ve also always had the resources to stay on top of the payments but this last year not so much. My husband is a builder and Michigans economy is one of the worst in the country. I’m trying to convince (my workaholic husband)it’s time to retire and just travel.
P.S. I think Levi would like a brother ~wink~

Great goals. My goal is to just not GAIN any more weight. If I can maintain my 600lbs, I will be happy.
Good luck with yours!!

Way to go, Tiffany! It sounds like it’s going to be a GREAT 08:) Like you, I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions, more accurately, I don’t KEEP New Year’s Resolutions! Good for you, putting your goals out there.. it’ll be an encouragement for you to help you reach those goals!
I SO know what you mean about gaining weight with each adoption. I really SHOULD make some effort at weight loss… alas, where to find the motivation?
Can’t wait to hear about you fitting into your ’skinny’ jeans again!

Here’s to a Great 08 & a Great Rat year!! I’m cheering you on to reach your goals! I know you can do it! I don’t make resolutions either, but lately, have found myself with lots of renewed spirit & taking the initiative to “purge”…closets, rooms, & my mind (what’s left of it anyway!)

Now that I’ll have 2 kiddoes to look after I am heading back to weight watchers!
My GR8-08 promise is to try to lose 40lbs by the end of the year…then another 40 in 09.

Sorry Rick, I happen to like the mantra “A Great 08″!
I’m all for that. I have a sneaky hunch that 08 is going to be great, for everyone!!
10.2 lbs, that’s fantastic! I love those scales! I’ll weigh myself before and after a big meal, Then announce to my hubby that the I ate 3lbs or pasta!! LOL

Congrats on the weight loss! I am working on working out 3 nights a week at home. My mid-section is not what it used to be after my hysterectomy this past July! I am determined to get a new swimsuit come summer!

(I hit enter by accident LOL)
We are also working to pay off our debt too. Moving ourselves out here took a toll on our finances. I am currently hoping that a new job for ME is around the corner. I had 2 interviews this week.

We’re working on paying off debt this year too…and then we’ll get a referral and go right back in the hole! So it goes.
